Ash Wednesday Service - Wednesday, March 5, 2013
6:30 p.m. in sanctuary
Ash Wednesday begins a 40-day period (excluding Sundays) called Lent, leading up to Easter. Lent is traditionally a season of repentance and preparation. In this time leading up to Easter, we prepare our hearts through reflection, repentance, and service.
The Ash Wednesday Service is a reflective way to begin the season of Lent. We read scripture, reflect on the meaning of Christ's passion, and consider how we can best prepare ourselves for Easter. As part of the service we have an imposition of ashes. In this traditional Ash Wednesday practice, we invite worshippers to come forward, kneel if able, and receive the sign of the cross on their forehead with the ashes. The ashes are a mixture of salt, oil, and the ashes of the past year's palm branches from Palm Sunday.
Join us for a reverent and moving service in the sanctuary to begin the season of Lent.
