MISSION IN A MILE
Mission in a Mile is a program in which our congregation seeks to make an impact in a one-mile radius around our church. The idea is that if every church paid special attention to the one-mile area around it, the church could significantly impact our culture and world. Alps Road has ministries that reach out to St. Mary’s hospital, Alps Road Elementary School, Clarke Middle School, the Beechwood neighborhood, and the Talmadge Terrace retirement community. For example, twice a year, we provide stuffed animals and children’s books for the Children’s Wing at St. Mary’s hospital. The church provides snacks for testing and other resources to Alps Road Elementary and Clarke Middle School.
Our annual church-wide tailgate party helps to collect stuffed animals and books for St. Mary's Pediatric Wing.
Our Mission is to go into the world, beginning right where we are! As the early church began in Jerusalem, then branched out from there, we also believe our service begins in our own back yard. We especially want to impact our neighborhood through service, witness, and friendship.
The congregation donated over 80 cakes and plates of cookies to benefit the Alps Road Elementary School in a cake walk. The bakers in our congregation went out of their way to make delicious treats to help raise funds for the school and its children. In addition, we have contributed school supplies, uniforms, and needed items for both the elementary and middle schools. Our hope is to makes the lives of both children and teachers more meaningful.
