DIRCTOR OF MUSIC
Alps Road Presbyterian Church, an ECO congregation in Athens, Georgia, is seeking a part-time Director of Music for traditional worship. Music responsibilities primarily include the rehearsal, training, and direction in worship of the Chancel Choir and either the Children’s Choirs or Handbell Choir. The Chancel Choir provides anthems and service music weekly in the traditional Sunday morning worship service, with rehearsals on Wednesday evenings throughout the year. The Children’s Choirs rehearse on Wednesday evenings during the school year, sing in worship periodically, and perform a yearly children’s musical. The Handbell Choir rehearses during the school year and rings in worship occasionally. The Director of Music is also responsible for the selection, rehearsal, and direction of music for additional special worship programs during Advent/Christmas and Lent/Easter, as well as other special occasions that may arise. Occasional collaboration between the traditional and contemporary worship music groups is encouraged, as is the enlistment of gifted musicians to share their musical talents by performing solos or participating in small ensembles. Recruitment of choir members and teaching the choirs and congregation an appreciation of music is vital to improving the quality of music and encouraging a life-long participation in Christian music.
Staff responsibilities include partipation in monthly worship planning meetings with the pastors, organist, and Worship Committee and preparation of an annual budget in consultation with the Worship Committee. Maintenance of the church music library and the purchasing of music and music supplies is also required. Music news and information for the church newsletter and Sunday bulletin should be communicated in a timely manner to the church secretary. The Director of Music should support and cooperate with the pastor(s) and other church musicians. This position is supervised by the Pastor and the Session, and annual reviews are conducted.
Qualifications for the position include:
Bachelor’s degree in the field of music, preferably church music, choral music, or music education; Master’s preferred
Prior experience and proficiency in directing choirs and/or church music programs
Effective leadership and organizational skills
Ability to work well with people of all ages and musical abilities
An understanding of ECO: A Covenant Order of Evangelical Presbyterians, conformity with its Essential Tenets and Confessional Standards, and demonstration of a personal faith in Jesus Christ
Salary range is $12,000-$15,000 a year, commensurate with the applicant’s experience and duties assumed, and includes 4 weeks paid vacation.

ALPS ROAD PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH (ECO)
Praise Team Leader
Alps Road Presbyterian has a 9:00 a.m. contemporary worship service. It is aimed at all ages and have 50-80 people present on Sundays. The Praise Team Leader will lead worship on Sunday mornings and practice with the praise band one afternoon a week. This person should be a dedicated Christian, have the ability to lead singing, and be able to coordinate the music of the Praise Team.
