As you have read in the newsletter, the presbytery will vote, on January 10, on Central’s request for dismissal. The meeting will be held at First Presbyterian Church in Winder, Georgia (239 W. Candler St., Winder, Georgia). Because of the importance of this vote, the Session invites the congregation to a day of prayer and fasting on Monday, January 9. There are numerous instances in the Bible of prayer and fasting. If you want to look at some Bible passages, you may wish to look at: Acts 13:2, Joel 2:12, Luke 2:37, Nehemiah 1:4, Psalm 35:13-14. In one instance, in II Samuel 1, the people fasted until the evening meal. The Session would like to ask you, on Monday, January 9, to consider fasting in order to give attention to prayer for this congregation. You may miss one meal during the day. Or, like in II Samuel 1, you might fast until the evening meal. As part of this special day, ask God to reveal his will for the congregation and guide the decision of the presbytery. The people of God have prayed fervently in times of need and God has answered with wisdom and grace. We too ought to give ourselves to prayer. Please consider if this might be something you are able to do and feel called to do.
