The Five "Sola's" Of Protestantism

The Five Sola's Of Protestantism

The Latin word "sola" means, "alone." Five key principles were at the heart of the Reformation: Scripture alone, faith alone, grace alone, Christ alone, and all for the glory of God alone.

—Sola Scriptura - Our understanding of faith and practice is "by Scripture alone" as opposed to any other source of authority.

—Sola Fide - Justification is received "by faith alone" as opposed to works or sacraments.

—Sola Gratia - Salvation comes "by grace alone” as a gift from God

—Sola Christus - Atonement for sins is "by and through Christ alone.”

—Soli Deo gloria - All glory is to be given "to God alone."
